				Electrical Fire...LED's

ok i don't know if this is in the right forum but whatever..maybe brandon can help me here.....me and my freind were installing L.E.D's on the windshield spray nozzles...and we wired them right to the battery... then each together.. to come on ..obviously.. at the same time...everything was working fine.....then a minute later smoke was coming from the wires....they all got toasted!..I had to rip em outa there with my bare hands (OUCH)...how and where should i hook those things up too!! we also tried the lighter...but it screwed up and now it doesn't work...... its REAL weird.... i also wanted a switch somewhere any ideas how to hook that up too? thanks...

thew firew mabe came out because when you installed them you stripped the insulation of the wire and when the came on you had a short. you can hook them up to the headlight relay, so they will come on with the headlights.

I know nothing about electrical in cars, but...

you hooked bare LEDs up to the battery? 12V, right? how much current were you putting through those little wires? |

some of those nozzles have a small resistor on the wires, and some of them have the resistor internally

ok, first try to get the wire through the firewall of your car, then you can jz wired the black wire to the ground, and the red wire if you want it to turn when the engine is one jz connect it to the interior light fuse, or if you want it to turn when the headlight to turn on connect it to the headlight fuse.

Why not just run a fused wire from the battery to the switch and then to the LEDs. Then just run the negative to a body ground instead of the negative battery terminal.

what if i wire both negative and postive to the battery..then to the leds..then a separate wire to the switch AND ground wire...somewhere if ya understand what i mean.... i'll try and draw a pic......and we did try wiring them to the lighter thing ... bout it didn't work right and now i have no power out of the lighter thing.....hmmmm... i think i'll just tap them into the wire going to the bulbs for the headlamps.....

dude if you take the relay out and put the wires in ( to the right of the relay) they will come on and go off with the lights.

If you wired them to the hot wire on the lighter it will work correctly. Dont use the negative battery terminal as a ground, use a body ground.

I'd say check the fuse to your outlet, and then check all the connections. Those wires for the washer leds are like the smallest guage I've ever seen. You probably fried 'em and/or the resistor. Oh well, like I've been sayin wire everything to your middle dash - It makes little things like that MUCH easier.

I specifically didn't wire mine to my headlights, because of cops. I put a toggle right next to my headlight switch so their independant. Whatever...my 2cents worth |
