What honda/acura engine codes mean

i found this on the internet! For anyone with questions on what any honda/acura engine codes mean!


What you're refering to are Honda engine designations, which make it easier to distinguish exactly what motor a person is refering to. For example, somebody simply speaking of a SOHC 1.6L Civic motor, could be refering to one of MANY motors. However, specifiing the motor by using the engine code (i.e. D16Z6: 1992-1995 1.6L SOHC 16v VTEC) makes it much easier to distinguish between the many versions of the same basic design. The basic codes are all the same. The block type is designated by a letter, the following two numbers refer to the engines size in liters, followed by the head type/engines series, also one letter and for non-JDM models, usually accompanied by a number. For example, D16Y8: Block type: D-series Engine Size: 1.6L Head type: Y8 SOHC VTEC

Below, I'll list some of the more common engine codes you'll encounter in the world of Honda performance, and some of the more "everyday" Honda powerplants as well:


EW4- 1.4L & 1.5L SOHC PGM-Fi- '84-'87 Civic (60-92hp)
D15B(?)- 1.5L SOHC non-VTEC - '88-'95 Civic's (62-102hp)
D16A1- 1.6L DOHC- 86-89 Integra (86/87 113hp, 88/89 118hp)
D16A6- 1.6L SOHC- 88-91 Civic Si/ CRX Si (108hp)
ZC- JDM equivalent of D16A1 but with 130ps
D16Z6- 1.6L SOHC VTEC- 92-95 Civic EX/Si (125hp)
D16Y5- 1.6L SOHC VTEC-E- 96-00 Civic HX (115hp)
D16Y7- 1.6L SOHC non-VTEC- 96+ Civic CX/DX/LX (106hp)
D16Y8- 1.6L SOHC VTEC- 96+ Civic EX (127hp)
B16A- JDM 1.6L DOHC VTEC- 89-91 Civic Si-R I/CRX Si-R, Integra RSi/XSi (160ps)
B16A2/3- USDM 1.6L DOHC VTEC- 93-97 DelSol VTEC/99-00 Civic Si (160hp)
B16A- JDM 1.6L DOHC VTEC- 92-95 Civic Si-R II/ 92-97 CRX DelSol SiR (170ps)

thnaks for the info, but i think you forgot about the A series available on some accords till 90 and 92 for preludes. i guess they are too old for somebody to start modding them.

Sorry but the f22 series have 5 variants not only onme as stated above

f22a1 - 90-93 accord DX/LX 125 hp
f22a4 - 90-91 accord EX/SE130hp (and 92-96 ludes S
f22a6 - 92-93 accord EX/SE 135-140 hp
f22b1 - 94-97 accord DX/LX
f22b2 - 94-97 accord EX/SE (excluding the V6 whic has a j30 engine ??)

i could have sworn the prelude S (92-96) had a f22a1, but i know for a fast its 135hp.

actually i drove a lude with a f22a1 engine. i popped out the hood to look at the engine and i noticed that on the block it said f22a1
