I've got a B0ner for HID's...
My biggest problem is my windshield... I don't think the stock headlights are THAT bad... but after seeing a thread on HID bi-xenon conversion on a eg civic and seeing the output I've got some serious wood for doing it myself...
It's just way too expensive... Seems to me I'll have to pay at least 300-400 for the ballasts bulbs and lenses... then I have to either buy aftermarket headlights (don't want to do that... they're all lame looking)... OR (which I think I will do if I do this eventually) is grind the inside of the stock lenses smooth (grind off all the lense grooves and polish it all smooth)... I think I can get a glass shop to do it for me or I can spend a LOT of time with a dremel on some sort of jig to keep it all straight... Here's a link to the thread on H-T... it's the pic towards the bottom inside the garage that made me really want them... http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=495898&page=1 Oh did I mention threre's a set at work I could use... I hate beeing under-payed AND honest.

Just my opinion...HIDs are f@cking gay. I'm sick of driving around at night and being blinded by someone who thinks that shit's cool. Just MHO.

If they're lined up right they should actually have LESS glare and they have a MUCH crisper cutoff line... so if you aim them right they'd be less likely to blind oncoming traffic...
I think most companies and individuals who retro-fit aim them too high... cuz some are HORRIBLE and others don't bother me at all.. I used to agree with you guys but I'm tired of not being able to see on the un-lit backroads at night.

i dunno why anyone would do a conversion like that especially if it costs a few hundred.

HIDs rock when in a proper setup....I dunno about retrofitting a car with them, though.
Unless you get a decent auto-leveling system and have the proper optics for the HID then they're just a danger to have on the road. As stated earlier, in the proper setup they have LESS glare than normal headlights and increase the visibility for the driver using them. However in the wrong setup they'll just blind other drivers and be a nuissance. I wouldn't be surprised if they're illegal as an aftermarket conversion in the near future, unless sold as a complete kit (proper headlamp assembly with proper bulbs and auto-leveling). What I'd like to see is all new cars coming with HIDs. b |
