Dont have DIRECTX 8.1?!
I'm trying to install a certain music related software that requires DirectX 8.1..
Now, I have 9.0, but it still doesnt allow me to install.. It just says I need 8.1, so I let it install 8.1.. then I reboot and still the same.. Any know what I should do??

try completly uninstalling dx 9 then reboot and then install dx 8

I may be wrong, but I think its impossible to uninstall v9.0...

i just checked for the 9.0.. and its impossible..
I'm guessing its the same for earlier version.. you can onyl upgrade.. I'm not sure, but I also think its impossible to downgrade..

yeah it's impossible to downgrade. look in the pc magazine archives and somebody has a tool to remove directx. it was like 1.5 years ago. look for that and you might get lucky

I'm 95% sure that there is a tool to remove DX9. It may take me a while to find it, but I'll look later tonight.

Run "dxdiag.exe" from the "Run..." box on your start menu. Make sure its reporting the correct version.
Soundforge by chance?

its reporting 9.0.. even after trying to install 8.1..
Its for Sonar XL.
