hmm, i don't think cleaning is an option. i looked thru the vacuum diagrams and it seems that i will need to install a catch can

just get a new one IF the old one is shot...
Wrap a rag around the inlet side and blow it should be pretty restriction free... Then suck (obviously not too hard you don't want to inhale anything) you should hear a click and it should be VERY restricted. It's never a bad idea to replace them... as mentioned DIRT cheap.
