I think the quality of big money films has decreased, largely because of the funding and big-studio structure. Maybe if you pick a movie at a big theater at random now vs 5 years ago you'll get a worse movie now, but if you read up and aim for the ones with citematic value, they're probably still there in as much quantity as ever.
