For those of you that have a custom made wood box, or any box for that matter, you should definetly seal the box.

Seal it with chaulk, to make it air tight. My wood box with 12"JBL sounded 110% better after making it airtight. My friend is doing it to a pair of 10" bazooka tubes also. You just can't be afraid of taking it apart.

my question would be, why caulk? caulk is for bathrooms and kitchens. a layer of liquid nails between the seams and then once it is put together, another layer on the seams is good. if you really want to make sure it is sealed, go over the liquid nails with clear silicone. now THAT is sealed.

I'm not sure why it works, but it does. You learn things when you make a ghetto-fab sound system. I would imagine the caulk bonds well to the wood, and is made with some sort compound that seals well.

I suppose if you have a well made box to begin with (all measured nicely with smooth edges) then the difference of caulk would be negligible. I had a crap-box 12"that I paid 40 for.

Like black95 said, liquid nails will seal the wood very well. I'm sure caulk would work, but I'd use liquid nails if I had a choice.

all materials available at home depot. liquid nails in the hardware department. silicone in the tile department.
