Ok, heres the scene. I'm driving home from my buddies house late Sunday night and once I hit the back roads I start to get followed by the police. No big deal though, I wasn't speeding, swerving, or driving erratic. Well the cop follows me for like 3 miles before turning on the lights and pulling me over.

I had the window open, had licence, registration and proof of Insurance ready for when he gets up to my car. I asked him what I did to get pulled over, he promptly told me that I didn't do anything wrong and walked back to run everything. This had me puzzled. A half an hour later, he walks back to my car and tells me that my plate lights are not working. I was polite about everything, he handed me a written warning and sent me on my way. The warning stated that I had 15 days to get the problem fixed or I would get a fine. I did find out that when I got home, they were working fine. I jiggled the harness, messed the the sockets and changed the bulbs, but all in all, I found nothing wrong. Well today, 4 days after getting the warning, I went to the police station to get everything verified that they do indeed work. First of all, there were no officers there, and to boot the secretary can verify that they did indeed work, but today she decided that she would just sign off on it and call it done because she didn't want to go out in the rain. I was like, "Look, I would feel better if you did actually see them working." Maybe I was wrong, but it's the anal retentive CYA attitude that made me say that. So she did go out and verify that they did work. She also told me that she was surprised that I actually showed up at all, most people blow them off. The first thing, Why did take the officer 30 minutes to run my plate for a written warning? Hell, if it was me I would have just pulled the guy over and told him the plate lights were out and sent him on his way, and I wouldn't of followed the guy for 3 miles either. The second thing that eats me up is that they weren't expecting me to actually show up. If the warning says 15 days or a fine will be issued, you better belive I'll show up cause I don't want to prospect of getting a fine hanging over my head. I don't know. Maybe it's just me.

or maybe it's because most cops (i'll admit, there are decent cops out there that actually care about the people they're "protecting and serving" are dick heads.

Well, I was thinking of it. I decided not to, I know most of the cops in the area I was pulled over in, I talked to one of the vets just a few minutes ago and found out that the policeman that pulled me over was an over zealous rookie, and he did get reamed for pulling me over in the first place LMAO.

I was like WTF some kids shot my tailight with a bb gun or something the hole is hella small anyway i thought about telling hiim to go find the kids who shot it and have them fix it.:o

I hear that's an old trick that someone who's trying to follow your car will do, punch a small hole in the taillight. Usually won't notice it when you look at your car but let's light shine through to make you easy to follow. O_o

I've heard that as well. It makes an otherwise common car more distinguishable since the white light catches your attention.

Well it was late at night for one thing. He was probably just doing it to check your record to make sure you didn't have any outstanding violations, etc. (Thats what takes 30 mins) They go back to their cars and run your license. If everything checks out fine they will let you go with some BS warning since they can't pull you over for doing nothing. Its still wrong, but most people just brush it off.

You should have asked the secretary or who ever about that, or talk to a Sheriff, etc. about proper procedure and if they can leagally pull you over for no reason at all. Sounds to me like you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

First...is it a trend to "report" cops. Deal with it. He ran your plates. Suck it up buttercup!

Second..I see the darrin and gay comments haven't stopped. I think this would be a sufficient warning for them to stop. Third..they can pull you over for whatever reason they want to.

To be honest, I don't mind being pulled over and given a warning. Hell, I actually like that bacause I can see my tax dollars at work. I just don't get the reasoning for taking 30 minutes to run my plate.

One funny thing did happen before he pulled me over though. I stopped at a stop sign that most people just roll through. He damn near rear ended me.

He was messing with you... I young cop sees a younger kid and know's he can mess with you... He was probobly jerking off on your license or something...

Most people who become cops do so because they want to be in a position of power... most real cops understand they're not really in a position of power... however when they first start they're on a power trip and try to take advantage of their position by doing things that are un-called for... Next time bitch him out... I got pulled over once for speading and the cop asked why... I told him that I was about to crap my pants and that's why I was speeding to get to my house which was like 1/4 mi. further down the road... he said: "Alrighty just stand here while I write you your ticket" ... then proceeded to take as much time as humanly possible to write a ticket. I later ended up knowing him and reminded him of the story... and his response was not shocking... Oh I was being a dick. Some cops like to entertain themselves by pissing people off. Deal with it. It's a small consulation for having to put your life at risk and not get paid shit or respected by 90% of the people who you pull over/ encounter. Although rookies get no slack from me. that dude was a veteran.
