You could do that, or instead of soldering, use some type of mad ass strong adhesive..

Contact cement or a strong epoxy should be up to the task!!

That's what I would suggest. We do similar things with stripped screws in RC cars all the time. Go with that, might want to try welding it though. Otherwise epoxy or contact cement should work just fine.
