who would win?
i have a '95 Civic EX Coupe and it is stock as of right now and one of my friends wants to race me he has a '94 buick regal it has 160hp and 185ft-lbs. it weighs 3240lbs. 125hp and 106ft-lbs. and weighs 2443lbs so if anyone can give me any help on this subject i would be thankful. i just don't want my ass handed to me so if he would have a big chance at beatting me i won't race till i get some mods. thanks again.

agreed. he weighs 800lbs more than you, but has 60% more torque and like 40% more HP... you will lose

Um, NO. every 100lbs is only 1/10 of a second. 40% to 60% more horsepower and torque will outweigh that. Just like when my cousin raced his dad's northstar caddy against a 67 camaro with a 350. Okay, the camaro doesn't have a whole lot done to it but it's in great shape. The caddy still whooped it by 2 cars every time they raced. That's the torque coming into play. That caddy is heavier than the camaro. And the horsepower that you said it has is to the flywheel. When it gets to the wheels it's what, 97hp? That just doesn't stack up to a bigger, beefier engine with more hp/torque. |

OK, not to be a prick, but it's a f*cking Buick Regal. And spare me the speach about the Grand National, because the Regal isn't Turbo'd.

Wee yes I was being very sarcastic.. 100# will not get you a tenth anyways. A lot of optimistic people strip their cars of their interior shedding 500# thinking they will drop a second.. here is a simple calc to figure out a hp rating. If you drop 100# figure an extra 5hp maybe depending on where the weight was taken from. |

I didn't say a guaranteed 1/10th, just calculated, because the addition of your 5hp. Theory and calculations don't always work in every situation. A lot has to do with the driver too. You can take the same car and let the owner drive the quarter, then let a more experienced racer drive and beat the owner's time, with all the same mods, weight, etc. But I don't think any of these things apply to the race this guy is talking about.

Well honestly.. I am talking more about car capabilities. I really don't car what it runs in the 1/4 even if I had a 3 second r/t. I just adjust how shitty I drove, then adjust it to see the cars capabilities. We are talking more about the 2 cars capabilities here rather than the drivers... and honestly, any moron can learn to drive.. it really isn't rocket science, and it isn't like flying a plane or anything.. |
