VTEC isn't original anymore, other car manufacturers have come up with their own versions (i.e. Toyota's VVTi). in short, VTEC is a cliche that has gone old. heck, even Honda themselves had to rename it into i-VTEC.

actually honda has a variable lift control to thheir vtec wich will slightly open the valves, creating a swirl wich will allow for a better combustion. For totyota's vvti the valves are either opened or closed, no middleway
