Taxes
Guys I'm a little new at this whole tax deal. I've decided to try doing my taxes myself this year instead of letting my parents do them. Does anyone know the difference between a 1040, 1040A, and a 1040EZ?

 basically the difference between the 3 forms is just the simplicity of them. the refund is the same

1040ez can be used as long as you have just the standard deductible and just a little bit of taxable interest... 1040a you can use with up to $400 taxable dividends, and 1040 is for anything above that... cant remember exactly, but its somewhere in that neighborhood...

Well, you can download all of the forms from the IRS as well as instruction booklets.
Depending on your income level, you can do everything for free with Intuit's Tax Freedom Project. I purchased TurboTax this year and filed electronically that way (mainly because I got some other stuff for free). Using software, it will automatically determine which 1040 form you need to file. Otherwise, you will need to read the books to figure it out. |

Unless you have deductibles just stick to the 1040ez.

try telefile. Its incredibly easy and it does most of the work for you. All you need to do is fill out this REAL simple sheet they mail to you. the sheet is just for organization so you can input the data easily. You give them w2 and 1099 int information, and they give you the other numbers that you need to file your state taxes. then you can use your state telefile. its real simple- made for idiots.
if your like me youll end up owing the state 1.00! |
