Well, you can download all of the forms from the IRS as well as instruction booklets.

Depending on your income level, you can do everything for free with Intuit's Tax Freedom Project.

I purchased TurboTax this year and filed electronically that way (mainly because I got some other stuff for free).

Using software, it will automatically determine which 1040 form you need to file. Otherwise, you will need to read the books to figure it out.
