Building on what he said, remember most 1000-2000 level intro classes are weed-out courses when they are taught to a larger audience and there is little interpersonal interaction with the prof. That's why he probably comes off as a prick.

When you get into the upper 3000s, 4000s they profs are more communicative and interested in seeing students succeed.
