Religion is an "impulse" or "response"? Dude, what kind of class is this?

You're probably already done, but reading your question I thought of describing the Taoist evolution from primal mysticism (as a specific response to dealing with life's hardships) to its modern incarnation as a deeper, more intellectual philosophy. That might be a cool response.
