the only hp difference between 5spd and auto would be the power to the ground. the power that actualy matters, cause the auto takes more power through the transmition than the manual does.

Is it safe to say that auto trannies take off about 10-15 hp to the ground??? It feels like that much, if not more off the line in an auto.

It's actually about 3%. So in a Civic EX, the difference is about 7-9hp. The reason it feels like more is because the gear ratios in an automatic are much longer, since they only have 4 gears where manuals have 5.

3% more than a manual right? cause i know my car puts about 168hp down stock, and makes 190 stock. so thats 11% loss roughly.

Automatic is 3% less than a manual.

i.e.: Manual 100 hp; Automatic 97 hp.

3% sounds right! and yeah, i forgot about the fact they've only got 4 gears! that probably makes for some of the difference too.
