my first time at the track, 09/11/04
today was the first time i had ever been to a track, it was also the first time i race on a track before. i had four runs, and out of the four runs this is my best run.
R/t .343 60' 2.607 330 6.936 1/8 10.493 MPH 69.40 1000 13.531 1/4 16.105 MPH 87.12 i know those are bad numbers for a d16 turbo. so i got a lot of things to do plus practice. please give your feedback and be honest |

What is your exhaust set-up? Actually, write down your whole set-up. Include tire/rims combo, management, boost level, blah blah blah....

practice is all i can say, that 60ft is horrible. i consider my 2.4 60ft to be bad.

is it intercooled? if not an intercooler and test-pipe/high flow cat should give a real nice increase in power. that combined w/ a 2.3 60ft(still not a great 60ft) should get you into the high 14's.

here is the same reply i posted on turbod16.com
you NEED practice sir.... here is my setup: 19T greddy kit EVOLUTION exhaust system KYB AGX/Pro-Kit 5" Johnnyracecar Intercooler 14" steelies wrapped with all-season tires (185/65/14) i'm boostin' at .38 BAR so that's about 5.5 psi with that i managed to run 60' 2.268 330 6.349 1/8 9.672 MPH 74.81 1000 12.501 1/4 14.930 MPH 94.93 also, i managed to hit a 2.205 60' out of my steelies. that just goes to show that even though i don't have fancy sticky tires i can still get out of the hole quickly, now if only had some proxes RA-1... just practice you launchin' and you can bring your time down tremendously

Your times were better than mine the first time I ever ran. I ain't gonna say what it was but yours was better, haha. Practice will help you greatly. Work on it and you should be in the 14 soon.

Dyno tune your car. You'll have to find a place who can tune your A/F ratio with your e-manage. Turn the boost up to 10 psi. It will be safe if tuned.
Get a high flow cat to free up the turbine spool time I'm hoping you're exhaust piping is within the range of 2.25 to 2.5 diameter. Remove your 17's. Your steelies will work better. practice practice practice..... |

probably should have done that the other way around (so you could tune with the cat as well) but it's better than not tuning at all i guess...

wait till you get the high flow cat for dyno tuning. If you replace that after the dyno tuning, it will throw off your A/F ratio again since the exhaust flow and turbine response will be different.....

well i am going to get it first because the dyno shop i went did not have the usb cord for the e-manage, so he could not tune the car, i have to wait and find a shop that has one so i will get the flow cat as soon as i can, it really sucked i was there for a hour before he figure out he didnt have the cord.

internet is very slow out here in the middle of the ocean, but search on the turbo forum about a small write up I did on Hondata and AEM EMS. JDMfantasy asked a question not too long ago. I'll let you decide for yourself.....
If it was up to me, I say get rid of that emanage. It's capability is not even half of what Hondata and AEM EMS can do. Hondata is still considered a "piggy back" but the best piggy back out there. AEM EMS is a true stand alone. My buddy has an AEM EMS and that thing does fucking rocks! The only draw back I see is that you will not be able to use at least 50% of what it can do, unless you know how to tune it yourself.... and trust me, this is not like tuning an APEXi S/VAFC. EMS are very detailed. Each time my buddy messes with it, the potential of what it can do seems to take us deeper in the "rabbit hole".... ha ha ha. In other words, it gets complicated.... very complicated. When his laptop crashed one time, he had to redo everything from scratch. I have nothing against EMS. It's potential is short to what Motec F1 stand alone systems can do. This is what I would have on a dedicated race car only.... but not for street nor occassional drag races. I still think that Hondata is the best tho. I just dont see why have all the features of the AEM EMS if the the person dont even want to deal with the complexity. You can have a decent turbo set-up by simply having a well tuned A/F ratio in which Hondata is capable of already.... and yes, Hondata can be monitored and played with like the AEM EMS using a laptop. you just have to get all harware/software for it |

well i think you should just stick with the emanage for the time being (seeing as you're having it tuned anyway), unless of course you have the money to spend now and really want to go with hondata.
as for the engine mounts, i know hasport makes mounts for swaps, maybe they make stock ones?

if you got the money to go hondata, do it. I'm going to, i'm just waiting for a good deal. But if they are familiar with the emanage and know it's weak points, then i'd take their advice (as long as they're reputable). Another thing though, make sure they are capable of tuning hondata.

I might have missed this, but did you mentioned where you are located/what your elevation is?
I ran about the same at my track @ 5800 ft. EDIT: I just saw that you're from Chicago? |
