Proper Fuel Pump Kill Switch

A LOT of people simply throw a switch on the yellow/green wire that is directly connected to the fuel pump. The problem with this is that wire draws too much power for a simple on/off switch.

I've drawn up a diagram that is the PROPER way to create a fuel pump kill switch.
With this route, you are cutting the ecu's fuel pump relay switch wire. Without a signal to the relay, the pump will not activate. Safe and easy.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parts Required:
SPDT relay (Go with a good brand)
(If the relay doesnt come w/ a diode between 86,85 you'll also need Radio Shack Diode 1N4001 - - Link @ bottom)
12v wires
12v rated switch

The switch doesnt have to be connected to constant 12v, it can also be connected to an ignition sourced wire.

The Fuel Pump Relay wire is:
A16 OBD2a/b (Green/Yellow) (96-00 EK Civic)
A15 OBD2b (Green/Yellow) (00-01 DC Integra)
A7 OBD1 (Green/Yellow) (Confirmed only P30)
Some charts indicate that OBD1 is the same as obd2......
I highly suggest you double check with these if you have ANY doubts about which wire you are to cut.)

The only other thing that I need to express, is that the diode has a silver strip at one end - this end goes on pin 86 (+12v)

How does it work?
When the coil is supplied with power (pins 85,86) the relay connects the switches (pins 30 and 87). While not supplied with power the relay connects 30 and 87a (87a is blank), so nothing happens.

Mount your switch somewhere inconspicuous. Somewhere that is out of sight...NOT on the dash....
When the car is turned on before the swich is activated the car will starve and shut down....just what you want it to do.

1N4001 Diode

(As always, I take no responsibility on this write-up....you break it, its your fault)

EDIT*** I just want to say how neat it is that this actually works very well. For the first week after installing it I could never remember to flick my switch and the car just wouldnt start! Its great!

Theres a lot of amps running through that wire though.
This really is safer for everything.

I buttoned everything up on it today and am very pleased with how it works.
