K, decided between 2 options.

Well it looks like I'm going to be keeping this car. O.o

I've decided to do two things with my money, both involving an auto-manual swap.

For both categories, I will want/need the following-

Manual Gauge Cluster
Manual Pedal Assembly

Both can be found at a salvage yard, no biggie.

Anyways, here are my 2 options.....

1. Turbo the pea shooter d16y7, and do some massive engine work. To do a manual conversion, I will need to purchase a lot of parts, such as flywheel, clutch, shift linkage, tranny, ecu, etc....

Many of my friends are leaning towards this.. for some unknown reason. The only problem I would have.. would probably be time. Takes a lot of time to replace those parts...

2. H22a power. This thing is a beast, and is still turbo'able (try say that really fast.) All I would really need is shift linkage, cluster, pedal assembly, and little stuffs to make this work (mount)... Creates good power, and is still NA (at around 200 hp).

I think the second method would be better in the price/power ratio... don't you think?

I'm going to need some input. Most of the labor will be done by me or under the supervision of a mechanic at my local shop.

I intend this to be a summer project..

Did i mention, for the first option, It'd cost quite a lot of money and it will take quite a bit of time to assemble all those parts together.....

and if I do choose to turbo the d16y7, should I hand pick a turbo kit together (biggest one i can find ) and rebuild the engine for the higher boost levels I'd want to run?

you could go through ALL that trouble to turbo it adn still get beat by a car with a simple twin cam swap.. id stay away from an H22 i PERSONALY think its over kill... a gsr motor would be REALLY nice.... and still VERY turboable...

Go b16, get it with a the manual tranny, turbo that at about 6-9 psi boost, and you'll have plenty of juice.... That's what I plan to do.

i wouldn't do a b16. Go with a b18 it has extra hp and torque and still handles turbo well. I would also stay away from the H22 unless your making it a drag car.. There is so much more work for the H22 over a b seriers engine...

don't bother to turbo you stock motor...

im gonna say b16 just because its in most cases almost $1000 less than a b18 and is still very similar in hp. with that saved grand you could buy a turbo...or damn close to it anyway.

true, but the b18c starts with 180hp then if you turbo that a little down the road and run it 8 psi. then your up to roughly 260 hp.

where as if you get a b16a2 you get 160 hp then run that at 8 psi you get about 240 hp...

What im gonna do is get a b18c then run that for a bit till i can afford the turbo. But it would be cheaper for the b16....



Also pdiggitydogg you think i can cram those kick panels into a 5th gen civic?

wait a sec lets be reasonable here...no one, and i mean no one needs a 260hp fwd civic...hell even 240 sounds nuts. i'd be happy just to see 160 on my civic

You're right. Trying to get a H22 to mount would be too much work.

Well, the dood selling the integra just e-mailed me again to ask if I was interested in his RHD JDM teggy R. I am soooooooo out of place right now. I want to see if its a possibility to finance this car some how.. but chances of that are slim and none.

So I'll probably end up with a b18c, and a large turbo. Who cares about spool time hehe. Any good places to purchase a reliable b18c?

if your stuck on your choices..i would go with the H22...the power to weight ratio would be a killer street setup and i think its much more cost-effective than rebuilding the d16y7...

Think about it like this you'll be paying a grand more of 15 more horse power and pounds of torque if you get a b18 over a b16. I'll be damned if I pay $1000 for a measily 15 ponys. the b 16 is a better buy for the money and the peformance is not that far behind its 1.8L cousin. But if you are stuck in the first two options I would go with the h22. Civics with prelude motors tear up the street. what you heard about the weight difference if you can do it...............do it.

The previous statment is in regard to the engines before you turbo them. 160 for $2500 or 170 for $3500. Which makes more sence to you.

a b18b is considerably cheaper, do a little lsvtec action, same output as a turboed b18c with less cash spent.
