ceiling or back seat design
Hey i just saw a picture of a truck that someone made a giant "X" on the cieling out of puffy carpet or something i thought it looks sweet. I want to attempt to make one for my car. I have the vinyl stuff on my cieling and its a gray color, does anyone have any idea how to make a design, say a maple leaf or something...i dunno..and apply it so it stays on the ceiling. I was also thinking of making a design on the middle back seat, how would i do that? Any ideas/suggestions is greatly appreciated..thanks alot

Usually people do it with cloth ceilings rather than vinyl....and they usually put some kind of foam between the roof and the headliner, which is what gives it the design.
You could switch the vinyl out for a cloth headliner, but that would cost you a little extra. For the seat, my guess is it would be the same process basically. Make design, remove fabric, insert design, replace fabric. I'm not sure how difficult it is to remove/replace the upholstery on the seats. There was another thread a couple months back on this, try doing a search and see if you can dig it up. b |

actually its better to have the roof made from vinyl.. it'll have a greater dimension to it.....
its not a bad process if you know how to apply vinyl in the interior.... yes it is foam that they use to make the design... but what they do after is use a heat gun to stretch the vinyl then glue it down... its quite a time consuming process but the final outcome is soo worth it... same goes for the back seats... if you're gonna rip it off you might as well just re wrap your seats over again in vinyl if your gonna do you interior... |

I guess I didn't think of reshaping the vinyl with a heat gun....
But just what do you mean by "it'll have greater dimension to it"?? b |

what i meant by that.. was if you seen the smooth finish of vinyl compared to a rugged material like tweed.. its stands out a lot more.. especially if you have a vinyl finish in the interior as well...
