SARS out break....

Quote:
There are security guards at every entrance. The building is completely sealed off. Nearly everyone is wearing masks. Even the ventilation system is a stand alone unit. Whatever happens inside will stay inside. Welcome to the city's first S.A.R.S. clinic at Sunnybrook/Women's College Hospital. Its official opening on Thursday marks the start of the province's emergency measures in dealing with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. The clinic will be opened 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Anyone who believes they have the contagious disease can go to the special facility to be diagnosed. Ontario health officials took the unprecedented steps after more cases of S.A.R.S. began showing up throughout the G.T.A. The last official number of probable patients is 25 in Toronto, but there may be more than that.

And physicians are doing everything they can to contain it before it spreads further. They've already closed down Scarborough Grace Hospital, and asked anyone who's been there since March 16 to voluntarily quarantine themselves for ten days by staying home, wearing masks, sleeping alone and using separate dishes and utensils. Toronto's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Sheela Basrur, admits that order could potentially affect "thousands".

Mt. Sinai's I.C.U. has also stopped accepting new visitors. And Centenary Hospital is now also checking into reports S.A.R.S. may have turned up there.

Man this thing is getting out of hand. I hope it doesn't become the next large epidemic. I hope the scientific/medical community can come up with something quick or else get lucky containing it well enough before it spreads further.

Good luck to all involved.
