Spanking...?
Under the right circumstance I would spank my kids. I've worked in a restaurant for 7 years and I see how parents discipline their kids. I'm sorry, but time outs just don't work. Get some control over your kids. I think instilling a little fear in your child helps. I know I was scared to do some stuff becuase my dad would whoop my ass hard. And it hurt. Anyway would you spank your kids?

Of course I would.
I was hit with a belt on several occasions and I turned out fine (ok, mostly fine). Bottom line is kids clearly see that if a time out is the only punishment, theyre going to push their limits, because "oh no, I have to sit quietly/in my room with all my cool shit". A beating is justified in MANY cases |

if I started crying my great uncle would give me that stern look and be like "i'll give you something to cry about if you don't stop being a baby" of course that would make me zip up real quick.. if I ever had kids I'd probably spank them

If your kid isn't cowering in the corner when you come home you've failed as a parent.

Spanking = Okay.
That timeout shit doesn't seem like it'd work. Kids are manipulative these days and as time progresses, it seems as if parents have a harder time saying no. Growing up, if I was in trouble and mom/dad were talking to me, I had to cross my hands across my chest and give them direct eye contact. I'd also be doing this while on my knees. I remember them asking if I was scared of 'em and I would always have to say YES. If I wasn't scared, they'd spank me to show me that they had the upper hand. Needless to say, I never asked my parents "WHY?!" when the answer was no. . (I asked once my sophomore year and I got shut down realllly quick). Oh yah, what's with seeing kids walk off on their parents while being lectured and SLAM the door? Is that only on TV or does that shit exist? To sum it all up, my parents have always been hardasses and that's why I'm more or less a innocent child.

If I could be a super hero I'd be Ass-Whoopin' man, my sole duty would be to whip bad kids asses.

I'm Asian........................
Well if that didn't say much...that child abuse crap is pure bullshit. I've been hit at least more than 15 times by (each time at least 20 whips) my parents with bamboo sticks when i was growing up (the thin ones hurt the most )...and I'm fine and am a very disciplined person. I do agree that excessive abuse will leave mental damage in children...discipline to a certain extent will only do good for the child. |

god i wish i could use paddles in school. or hell for that matter tabasco sauce. i have one 8 year old boy in my class now who thinks he is teh worlds biggest hard ass. it is nothing for him to throw a desk at the teachers, call us racial slurs and when we take him to the ground to restrain him he then displays animalistic behavior. if he acts up too bad we call mom, she comes in beats his ass right there and then and we have no more problems with him for the rest of the week.
i think when time out is used without ever backing down then it is a great form of discipline but the problem is we as humans pick our battles and dont always use it teh right way 100% of teh time. were as corpral punishment sticks in a childs mind.

I hear ya, try having parents that were both raised in Vietnam. Shit, to this day, my mom still says "If I would've looked at my father like that I would've been smacked up agaist the wall." I've been beaten more than anyone would ever want to know. Yes, it's more than your average beating and yes, it's scarred me in ways that it sometimes fuck up my life but hey, all in all, I'm a pretty good kid. It's taught me to punish my kids but not to beat them. There's a difference even if it's both physical.

<-Has 2 kids
<-Spanks both of them. I tried the time out thing... and it worked for a while.. .but then they just start to act up the whole time their facing the corner (they HATE having to face the wall). You're left with no recourse IMO... if you have strong willed kids the only way to assert authority is through spankings... It doesn't even have to be hard most times... my kids will scream and cry when I hit them lighter during a spanking then I would if we were rough housing. Kids need dicipline or they run things and turn into shitty people like celebrities.
