Spark Plug Gapping
Well, so now that I know that I should not have put Bosh Platinum +4 plugs in my '99 Civic EX, I have another question for you guys:
Is it easy to set the gap on new plugs? I am planning to just get a set of copper OEM NGK's, but I don't want some fool at the dealership charge me extra to put them in for me. Bosh ones were easy to put in because you don't have to gap them. They have four electrodes. I want to save money and do it myself. I know I need that little gapping tool, but then, how do I use it? I believe that the correct gap for my engine ("d" series VTEC) is 0'44. Should I attempt it myself or have the shop do it? Drumboy69 P.S. I am sick of snow, here in Ohio, I want summer!! |

The gapping tool is easy.. Once you look at it its pretty self explanitory.. As for the NGK copper plugs. Good choice, they work great. They will probably come pre set too, depending on where you order them from, but you should always check the gap to make sure they are correct.

when you boght the plugs they should come pre-gapped. just check them with a feeler gauge. i'm sure they will be just fine.

Yeah what everyone else said if you get the circualr type of gapper it is pretty self explanitory. On one side there is a measurement in thousands of an inch i.e. .035 on the other there is mm i.e. 1.0 which is equal to about .035 or .040 I'm not sure I'm going of the top of my head check to make sure though. Your factory gap and spark plug part # should be on the underside of your hood on the lil white tag there is also the valve lash setting for your intake and exhaust valves also.
