umm question, what motor are you running? 170 sounds like a GSR or B16a2.
Im thinking in the long run. after everything i will have done to my car. i will buy a JDM B18c5 for my civic. Plus why does everyone think mustangs are fast?

they're not but they're still faster than a civic with a b16 swap, which proves my point that after you spend all kinds of time/money on a swap you're still not close to being fast. the only thing that'll make a low displacement engine fast is boost, period. |

I know that this seems a little harsh, but its true - i hate honda for downgrading the USDM civics and giving them the Sohc Vtec motor. Because of this, getting a Bseries motor is a big pain in the butt. |

not really cheap, just not wasteful. I dont want a 400hp+, tire smoking FWD civic, just a car that'll run 12's, which is NOT hard to do with a d series engine. If HP #'s are the name of the game then of course swap. If having a fast daily driver is what you want, why swap out a perfectly good engine that'll get you what you want? Is it to be able to say you have an engine swap???? |

you forget that a built (but still daily driven) NA sohc vtec motor makes about the same power as a stock B16 - if you put 3k worth of NA tuning into a Sohc vtec motor, you'd end up with around the same thing as if you had swapped in a DOHC vtec bseries motor. |

i missed this one. and once again you're wrong, i'll spend 3k and have a 1.8ltr high compression SOHC that'll SPANK any near stock b16. |

hmm.
it might have something to do with my D series blowing up and me not wanting to put the same POS back in. Im sure youll tell me how i suck at driving casue it exploded. but remember i bought the car with 250k miles on it so i could do a swap.

just cuz fighting is fun...
A. Pre-80's mustangs are WAY WAY uglier than 80's mustangs... Sure 65-70 are better looking but 72-79 are about the ugliest cars ever produced... B. 80's Mustangs GT's or not are not inherently crappy or slow... a 5.0 or a turbo 4 mustang would own a civic with a swap ANY DAY... and if you ask me they have just about as much styling going for them... that's more of a personal opinion... but I think 80's fastback hatches are DAMN nice looking... I don't like notch backs but again... that's all up to individual taste. C. A built D would not only have WAY WAY more power than a stock b16 but it would be FAR from it's "full potential"... Once built you could turbo the PISS out of it or run LOTS of nitrous... there would be NO comparisson between a stock b swap and a d with the same money thrown at it... whether it's for a NA build or not... 3k into a d could get you SUB 12's with some luck. A stock B swap will NEVER do that... even a type R... the only upside to a B series is that you can tune both intake and exhaust valve timing independently... but that's hardly worth 3k... Don't get me wrong there are plenty of benifits to swapping and it's a great quick fix with out much thought or work if you just want some more speed... it's just a LOT of money to spend on not soo much imo. Unless you go 1.8 or higher a swap is silly to me... I'd take a LS swap over a b16anything.... at least you get some displacement out of the box... just my 2 bits. Oh and v6 mustangs are slow slow slow... 5.0's aren't even that fast... sure they're faster than a civic but that's not saying much imo.

This is true (ok, i over exagerated), but you will never get anywhere near out of a d series motor what you can out of a b series motor. |
