H22A Swap
We have a 92 civic and recently did an engine swap with a H22A. Everything went well and we took it to a shop for some of the electronical work. Once we drove it home we noticed that it does not accelerate. It feels like it has a loss of power and it sputters. The only other problem we have now is to replace the gasket in the exhaust. Can that be the problem? What could cause it not to accelerate? Please help

i'd check your timing... also what ecu are you running? are you using any of the olc civic parts with the swap? if so what ones?

H22A swap
You can drive the car. However it has no pick up. Its slow and like I said it sputters.

we are using the ecu that came with the engine. The only old parts from the stock civic engine that we are using are the fuel pump and the fuel filter. what do you think?

to small of a fuel pump. the h22a is 2.2L and heavy as hell. the civic stock pump isnt use to filling up the extra 1.8 litlers.

Would that be the only thing? B/c not only does it lack power it will also die after you rev it when it's warm only.

change the pump. then try it. sound like the motor isnt getting enought fuel. and at high revs, it needs more gas.

In addition to that...
If you run the motor without the proper fuel air ratio... you can have BAD results... like destroy the engine. |

Well we replaced the fuel pump with the correct one for the engine and it still has the same problem and i also mentioned before about the problem with the headers so we went ahead an replaced them... any input? what could it be? please help

There is a civic forum there that has most of this information FAQ'ed. There is also a Prelude forum... Since the H22A is usually used in a Prelude. What type of CAT are you using? Do you have exhaust obstructions or a bad muffler? Do you have access to a scan tool that can take freeze frame date on the unit warms up? If so, post that information: ECT IAT MAP TPS OS1 OS2 (if applicable) Spark Advance at Idle with A/C and everything turned off. You could have the timing belt off by a tooth... What did you do with the EGR system? Did you adjust the valves properly? |

Ok well we have a new cat OE replacement. No exhaust obstructors. Timing is right on the mark. Fixed intake bypass. So now there is power but it still misfires and stalls out when you come to a stop or let the revs drop. We checked everything that the Helms manuel says. Dont have a scan tool. And I never checked into the valves. ( I dont think that would cause it to misfire) Idle air valve seems to be doin its job. Only other thing the Helms manuel says is that it could be the fuel pressure regulator but need the tool to check the pressure.
So what do you think?

Actually, the valve lask adjustments CAN cause a misfire.
Since you are putting it in a Civic, I suspect there is some other problem. What we need to start with is: Is this a random misfire, or a misfire on just one cylinder? Gerhard |
