what should I expect from the greddy.....
Hi all you Honda turbo guys! I am going to purchase a 92-93 civic HB with the 1.6L VT motor. Now I want to get the greddy turbo kit for it. How much HP should I expect to gain. The website dosent really tell much. This will be a car for me to have fun with while I save up for the New GST. Around here you can get civic's for about 2500-3500, so I was going to get one and then save up for my next project, but I still want to have fun in the tuner scene. What do you think? Greddy kit worth the 1500 bucks? How much HP will it put to the ground????

You said VT did you mean VX? The VX only has a 1.5 liter motor in it. The Greddy kit is made for an EX, but you can probably get it to work. I dont know what you will have to modify if anything. The Greddy kit for the EX (D16 engine) usually pushes out between 135-150+ HP depending on the car's setup and how it is tuned. If you can get it to work on a VX itll probably be alittle less then that. Hope this helps alittle.
Here are the Specs: 92-95 Civic VX D15Z1 1493cc 4 cyl, 16 valve SOHC VTEC-E 9.3:1 c.r. PGM-FI (MPFI) 92 bhp @ 5500 Redline: 7000 rpm 97 lb-ft @ 4500 (Info came from Hybrid Honda)

NO I just abriviated vtec (my bad). Is that to the wheels? 135-150hp to the ground??? I wasent going to do too much to mod the car (lower, turbo, exhaust, mabey a couple of other style mods). I was looking for the 1.6L engine. Do all of the EX models come with that motor??? Please help I know very little about the honda line.

The engine I named out is for the VX which as a little less power then the EX and SI model in the 5th Gen (92-95) have these motor/specs:
D16Z6 - 1590cc 4 cyl, 16 valve SOHC VTEC 9.2:1 c.r. PGM-FI (MPFI) 125 bhp (to the flywheel) @ 6600 (just over 100 to the ground.) Redline: 7200 rpm 106 lb-ft (to the Flywheel) @ 5200 With a Greddy turbo at about the stock 5.5 lbs of boost that comes preset on the kit, your civic will probably put out 135-150 (to the ground). Depending on what else you have done with it, and if you decide to turn the boost up a little more you could have more power to the ground, I think about 140 hp to the ground is about average, but it really varies from car to car. This doesnt sound like a whole lot of power but keep in mind that thats with not many other mods, in a pretty light car. This will probably put you low 15's high 14's pretty easy.

That is kinda what I am looking for! Just something to have fun with while I build a 300HP eclipse.(which is going to take me about a year at this rate). But I need something that I can daily drive, so why not the civic! For about 3500$ I can have a streetable tubo civic...sounds good to me. Thanks for the info!

Yeah you might need to get little things here and there for the Turbo like guages and stuff, but you know how all that works so it wont be to bad. The Greddy turbo kit is a good little kit for streeting around, Ill give it that. It should be perfect for what you want to do with it. and itll still give you something to work for in the future if you bored with what you have. The turbos good for about 14lbs of boost.

SUp Racing Rice. The stock compression on a civic is 9:2:1?? jeez that seems kinda too low. But nehow RxR_Eclipse i have the greddy turbo in my car and i absolutely love it. I am currently boostin 7 lbs and it pulls pretty strong considering that its only a sohc. Once the greddy turbo is installed your slow ass civic will turn immediately into a Gsr ANd Si Killer. = ). Of course if they are boosted then they'll probably eat us alive but if they only have the usual bolt on's you'll smoke em in your dust. But know that although the greddy turbo gives you an instant power which you'll love but the small turbo does not have great potential. If you plan to fix the crap out of your car later and wanna go really fast then you'll probably wanna get a Drag 3 OR the Revhard Stage2. I still have alot of work to be done in my Greddy Turboed Civic and i am already thinking about getting a bigger turbo. But yeah. Trust Me. Greddy Is dope. I mean it only cost like the half of what the other Turbo Kits cost. = ). By the way i paid $1550 for the kit, Greddy Turbo Timer, ANd the Greddy Type S Blow off. And i think i have around 160-170hp at the wheels. I had the kit on my car bone stock with the cat and stock exhaust. I immediately felt the power. Then i got a Greddy SP exhaust and a straight pipe and i noticed a great improvement in power. I never knew that An exhaust and straight pipe can give you that much power. But yeah, Get it. You'll not regret it. Good luck with your ride. |

Dunno... It maybe a little low, I got it from Hybrid honda so its possible. I do know the 6th Gen have a little bit higher compression. That might be why people get better Dyno Results from a 5th Gen with the Greddy Kit then people with a 6th Gen do?? Not sure tho. Its probably emissions junk tho.
