87 Honda Accord driveaxle
I have a 87 Honda Accord that I took to a shop to have the alternator replaced. The car was ready on a Friday afternoon and I picked it up and drove it home. I drove it once on Saturday for about 10 miles or so. On Sunday I started to back out of my driveway and I heard a loud poping sound, then the car would not move at all. I could hear the transmission, like the gears were changing, but no movement from the axle. I pushed the car back in to the driveway and the transmission fluid leaked out. It appears to have leaked out at the driver side driveaxle. I have been told by several people and read in auto repair manuals the the only way to get the alternator off the type of Honda Accord I have is to pull the drivers side driveaxle, but when I call the mechanic who worked on it. He said the didn't touch the driveaxle. So after all that, my question is.. Does this sound like the driveaxle needs to be replaced, or just something else?

Sounds more like you need a new mechanic. If all of the repair manuals and prevailing opinion says that the halfshaft needs to be removed and he says he didn't touch it, something doesn't jive (unless he's got some super special secret to doing it, which is unlikely). I mean, for most jobs mechanics will use repair manuals just like the rest of us. My question would be how you phrased the question. Did you call him up and say "my axle is fucked up, did you remove it to work on the alternator?"? If so, he's probably just covering his own ass by saying he didn't touch it.

that sounds weird, but if the car is like my 92 integra the only other way is to tear down the braking system on the car
