mobil synthetic every 6k or so. 90k miles.
I figure the book says 5k (or is it 7500?), and sythetic buys a little extra, so I'm treating it okay. |

i use 10w-30 Castrol with a can of engine restore every oil change. almost 150k miles and the engine still has a beautiful 195psi compression.

redline... I LOVE it... runs MUCH MUCH smoother than mobil 1..
A little history on mobil1... It USED to be AWESOME... so good infact it needed to be re-designed... it was sooo good and longlasting that the additives would gum up the motor... They then re-formulated it so that the additives would breakdown at a more "acceptable" rate... this unfortunately lead to a MUCH crappier product... it decays MUCH MUCH faster. In fact it usually decays within if not under the recomended 3-5k mi. intervals... I have had redline in both the tranny and engine for about 7k now and it still runs like it just had the oil changed (yes you can tell the difference)... I'm gunna swap the filter soon but probobly leave the oil in till 10k... I figure the only way I can afford redline is by using it to it's max so it is equal to the cost of changing mobil 1 twice. I don't know anything about others but amzoil and redline are just about as good as they get... mobil1 is good and all but no where near as good as it was which is where it got it's reputation from... now it's like mother or mcguiares (waxes) it's great readily availble stuff but by NO MEANS the best.

^that's what I've heard...
But I've never heard a specific story or what it did... Mine was REALLY bad... and I changed to redline and it got MUCH MUCH better... I may flush it and switch to honda mtf but I don't really want to go through all that for a tranny that's shot anyway... It's literally waiting to go... it whurs like nobody's business. So what does redline do thats all bad?

you know that guy i took my tranny to?? well he has an accord with a stroked out h22 and runs low 13's n/a, he was using Redline tranny fluid and he had to keep tearing apart the tranny to replace parts that were going bad( I didnt ask for specifics) after the 3rd time he started using some other fluid( I forget what it was, I'll find out though) and he hasnt had problems since.
Before we got into this conversation he asked me what was wrong with my tranny and I told him the bearings were going bad, he was like thats weird they usually dont go bad even if driven kinda hard. I started to say "well I started using Redline..." and he stopped me by saying "oh, well that explains it" Needless to say, I'm never gonna use that in my tranny again. Maybe theyre engine oil is good, but after the tranny ordeal I'm not gonna chance it. |

yeah I've heard stuff like that before but never any specifics...
I'm not gunna swap it out cuz I already did the damage with mobil1 in there... and it was towed in gear so it's gunna die eventually but I'd like to find out what the best to use is before I end up with another tranny. I'm guessing honda mtf and regular changes is probobly the best bet.

that guy I was talking about was telling me about some kinda fluid, its actually for an automatic tranny. I'll find out and let you know, apparently alot of people who are into racing use it. its also expensive.
