When you're racing...
when do you shift RPM wise:
*>From 1st to 2nd *>From 2nd to 3rd *>from 3rd to 4th *>from 4th to 5th i want to figure out at what rpm should i shift at, to get the best pull outta my next gear. |

*>From 1st to 2nd
~8000 RPM *>From 2nd to 3rd ~8000 RPM *>from 3rd to 4th ~8000 RPM *>from 4th to 5th ~8000 RPM But you may have trouble hitting 8k in your Civic....

Redline is 8200. Shifting after the peak power is fine. You aren't making anything after that anyhow.

Hmm, ok....so, how would i go about finding out what my power peak is on my car? is the peak at a different rpm now that i've modded it? or is the peak still the same as the factory peak....if so, i oculd jsut go look it up on a honda site right?

you should dyno your car and look and see exactly where your peaks are at. then take into account your gearing so that when you shift, you'll know where you'll be in your powerband to continue to accelerate. shifting at the end of your powerband as opposed to right before redline could put you in a position where you'll be in the next gear before the power band thereby losing the power that you'll need for acceleration. or by shifting at red line you may be shifting into the tail end of your power. research your own car's chart cuz everyone is different

Yep. Very true. Play around and find out what works best for you. What I posted were just general 'guidlines'.

You can hit that on a highway easily. There's very few times I've ever done that. Most races are over by the top of third or just into 4th.

8k is not the redline. I believe it was around 130 or so.. Honestly I've not done that in a long time. That is just way too damn fast on the highway in a lil econobox. That & stock tires aren't rated all that high anyhow. *EDIT* Topping 4th is 115-120 range. Just did it today on the way home from work.
