Top Speed 90civic question

okay my engine is completly unmodified so bare that in mind when I say that apparently my top speed is 96. not kidding. I downshifted all the way to third and redlined for a short while, then reded 4 and 5 is 96 at 5400rpm. Is this a sign of something bad under the hood (except for having a stock d16) or is my clutch slippin maybe a little, or is this just normal? I know I shouldn't worry too much about top speed and concentrate on accel, but its bothering me.
(1990 civic si hb with 164,400)

plus if also heard that if you remove the resonator you increase top speed. true? also, do you still utilize the resonator with a CAI? I didn't think so but im not sure.

Moo.

I think your car is just governed and that one of the computer chips in your car (sorry don't know which one ) won't let you go above 96. 96 seems to be the limit for quite a few civics.

(164,000 miles) Thanks baconking now I dont feel so worried. Still, hopefully after a few changes that number will go up. I'll look around about that chip - that needs to come off.

um, anyone know about my resonator question (above)?

If your car truely is governed, you'll need a new chip, you can't just remove the one you have. There are also chips specifically made to remove governors.

Yeah, thats kinda what I meant. I'll see what happens when I add some performance. I'm really more concerned with accel than max speed, but I'll still look around for that chip. If you know of any sites or places to get em, let me know.

Well, one thing I must say is that your car has quite a few miles on it, so I wouldn't push it too much!

I know. The only real option is engine drop or new car. Both are equally desirable.

I'd say go for new car.
Less milage on the chassis, suspension, and the rest of the works

I'm leaning more towards that option. Engine drop would be something I would wait on, new car or not. I was readin some magazine at B&N and there is talk of a new type of engine that will be as popular as the b16a is now. I dont remember what it was called...k18? something? k16 would make more sense... I dont know...I have a lot to learn before undertaking something like that.
