Question about Amps'n'sh!t

Is anyone familiar with SPL amps? I know that the best amps out there are Phoenix gold, Rockford, soundstream, etc. but I had installed a Jenson 5 channel amp that cost $119.00 in my younger brother's ride and it has been pumpin for 3 years with no problem...what I'm tryin to say is that brand name is important, but the SPL 600watt amp is affordable and has a good rating...What would HS members do?

for one, would post this in sound, but anyways, um by spl do you mean mono? because i stand by the fact that if you are running a subwoofer setup i would use a mono block d amp, its gaureenteed to hit hard beacause it isn't losing its power through heat, but some times you get what you paid for. i.e i hit a 136.5 with a crappy amp and 2 alpine type e 10s

I don't exactly understand your question. I, however, would never buy a Jensen amp. They simply aren't clean. However, a stereo is only as good as the weakest link in the system, ie you can have nice speakers and a shitty amp and itll sound bad, or a nice amp and bad speakers and itll sound bad. Please rephrase your question and tell us what you are looking to power with an amp and I'll try to help ya out.

I've never used anything but Phoenix Gold. Yes, they're expensive but they're cleaner than hell (bad analogy...I doubt hell is very clean...but you get the idea). I say save up for a good quality amp.

my friend bought a soundstream amp, heard they were damn nice..cheater amps so I hear. But I have my Audiobahn an I love it, I have a 400 watt 4 channel audiobahn intake series and it runs like a dream, powering my two infinty kappa perfect 12.1d's. not sure what it hits but it's damn low for only 200 watts per sub. low and I like it
just waiting to get money so I can buy the monochannel 800 watt..or just buy a soundstream at the local shop (which is what I'm probabl gonna do)

1 12" 1200wattpeak Sony Xplod...I found an amp Brand Name "SPL" 600watt...I have never heard of them, but the review on the website was pretty good, taking into consideration that they slammed a couple of better known amps.

***Moving to Sound Forum***

As for amps. It all depends what you want out of one. If you want an amp that will make noise, just about any amp will do. And just because its a cheap amp doesnt mean it wont last. Its usually just the opposite. The biggest thing with buying a cheap amp is the power efficiency and the ability to produce clean sound.

What are the RMS ratings on the amp and sub? There are a ton of other things to take into consideration for a sub. One of the biggest is the kind of box the the sub is housed in. A sealed box will require more power then a ported box will, etc. Your electrical system is another issue you need to keep in mind. Chances are, for a 600W amp you shouldnt really need to upgrade your altenator though its probably not a bad idea. Also quality wiring will help as well.

dont forget about ohms... i think you always want you amp to have lower ohms then your subs... like say your amp is a 2 ohm, try to get a 4 ohm sub

^ actually you would want to match them up, and if you are running subs you will get better sound, if not the best sound applicable if you run mono block amps
