CD Changer Mounting Dilemma

okay my car is small, and packed with sound stuff already. I have a 1990 civic si. The back is full with two 12s in a hatchbox and 2 6x9s on the top rack. My amp is currently mounted on the backside of the backseat, but I'm buying a new one to mount on the hatchbox.

Now the problem is I'm looking for a place to put my alpine cd changer. Underthe seat is not possible because there is not enough clearance. If the seat were to ever be moved up, it would smash the changer. Even if I cut out the carpet under there, I wouldnt get enough room.

I've thought about the sub box, but I'm also worried about skippage. They (the subs) thump very nicely and shake the quarter panels. If I mounted a changer onto this earthquake box would it skip too badly? Anyone do this before?

Lastly I've considered the glove box. As it stands there is not enough room. I'm thinking (after some measuring of course) that if I cut into the back of the glove box I'll get the clearance I need. I'd really rahter not destroy my glove box though, so if anyone has any ideas...

No electronics on sub box? Why? would the vibration really cause that much disruption? I figure at least mounting the amp on there shouldn't hurt anything, or will it?

I hadnt considered under the dash, I'll see if I have enough room. thanks.

If the box is built properly, the box doesn't vibrate, everything else does.

In reality, if the box is made correctly the box does not vibrate.

try this:

take a glass of water and place it/attach it to different areas in your car.. (directly on sub box, ...or on a fixture coming off the the body..)

and observe the behavior of the water.. try as many correctly made boxes as you like.

dont forget that the box doesnt exist by itself, its in an environment (trunk), and a variety of factors/elements will influence it (react on it!).

have you never heard of such a thing as carpet? carpet is the soft stuff under your feet which is found in many houses and even a few cars. while it is comfertable to stand on, it also acts as a damper. what this means is it cushions the movement of heave stuff on top of it. plus the weight of the box and speakers, if correctly built, it doesn't move. that goes for most cars. high end competition cars have completly different reasons for the same thing though.

carpet huh.. Ya I'm familiar with that stuff.

Now why would you want to be sarcastic about this??

Main purpose of carpet : aesthetics and to minimize friction (if thats what you intend by damper, fine.)

Listen, you seem to be stuck with some ideas, and thats fine.. Most of what I know is from testing/experimentation.. My main purpose is to enlighten people who are relatively new to this.. Not to prove others wrong.

I think blind34_1, has gotten what he wanted from this thread.. So that'll be it for me.

FYI, I only attempt to prove people wrong when they are. Oh yeah, and you are correct about why carpet is in a car. But just because that is why it is there does not mean that it doesn't do other things also. In addition to the three afformentioned things, it also gets stained and torn. Oh and by the way, I am not the only one stuck with ideas. Just like in the movie, "If you build it they will come," "If you make the box right, it does not rattle."

umm...okay thanks...so I have(had) a crap box from best buy. It would vibrate like crazy.

anyways, I've got a new plan for everything. I plan on removing my back seats and installing a big steel box that will bolt onto the frame of my car. I plan on relocating the stereo wires and such so they will run into it, and then I will have plenty of room for the changer and the amp. Ace key locked. No ones getting in unless I want them to. (Can you tell I've had some problems with theft?)
