D16 Head work question?????

I want to build my SOHC VTEC engine and i was wondering if it is absolutely necessary to replace my valves, spring and retainers when i get my head built?? I have a 99 ex with 34000 miles on it and I'm not gonna modify my ECU to raise my red line or anything im just gonna go mostly NA with a Little bit of NOS.....and also, does anyone know what kinda compression i should be running with the mods i've listed above?

It depends on how aggressive of a cam you get. You will probably have to replace the springs and retainers if you have a very aggressive because they will be stonger then the stock springs. If you just go with a mild cam youll probably be fine with stock stuff for a while.

If you're not raising the rev limits of the motor and keeping a mild cam profile, you're fine stock. If you're going to extend the rev limits and used a wilder cam profile, you'll want stiffer springs and stronger retainers to prevent floating
