Actually his plan doesn't have much to do with sending more troops to Iraq from what I've read. Although with all of the bullshit we've thrown at current troops it's hard to imagine we'll have an easy time recruiting in the future. It doesn't matter how many troops we add on...this war is so over. I guess it's nice to see the white house finally acknowledging it as well.

Honestly, even if the new troops don't go to Iraq I think the plan is pretty flawed. The whole idea is to boost troops levels so we can keep fighting "the war on terror". Basically it boils down to "we don't want to get our asses handed to us the next time we invade a country". Besides, where will these new troops come from? The military is already having prblems meeting recruitment goals. I don't think a major international catastrofuck is going to rally the troops.

The easiest way to increase troops would be to increase signing incentives. $5000 more upon sign up or prime loans while enlisted to help you recover from your debt. There are more tools to get people to sign up then we'd like to think. Military caters to the lowest common needs.
I personally think the issue in Iraq is multi-fold: 1. Military hasn't been let lose 2. Military doesnt have the correct inteligence to find all said bad guys 3. Iraqi People - Have a desire for infighting - Haven't seen real improvements over leadership change - Different culture allows for more fuild power shifts 4. Greater issue of reduced population grow removes long term viability to huge military spending. |
