Movie Banter: The Butterfly Effect
This was an awesome movie. plain and simple. By awesome I mean that it acutally creeped me out...sort of. It's very rare that a movie can do that to me. This is a WTF?!-type movie.
***** FOLLOWING IS A SUMMARY OF THE PLOT, DON'T READ IF YOU LIKE GOING IN FRESH!! The main character has some problems. As a kid he has these blackouts when his stress level gets too high. He cannot remember what happend during these blackouts. They disturb his mother enough to where they see a doctor, who suggests he record everything he does in a journal, to possibly jog his memory. He does this all of his childhood, which is pretty disturbing and depressing in its own right. All the time he's having these blackouts, until we skip ahead to his college years. In college, he breaks out these old journals and starts reading through them. As he does, he basically transports himself BACK to his childhood, but he is aware of himself while doing it. So all of a sudden you have a seven year old boy with the mind of a twenty year old (and the vocabulary, hehe!) In doing this, he makes small changes in time, which changes everything about his future. As he returns from his travel (at the end of the blackouts) everything goes horribly wrong. This is why the movie is titled such as it is; you can change one little thing somewhere or sometime, and it will have an exponential impact on you or the people you love. *** END OF SUMMARY, YOU CAN READ NOW **** This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat, as it were. I was very abosrbed into the story, and was always wondering want was going to happen next. It is rare in these days that a movie like this is actually made. Most movies are designed in a disposable fast buck type fashion, but not this one. GO SEE IT! please, anybody else who has seen it, post what you thought! |

well I have heard mixed things on the movie..Hear from alot of critics that say it sucks and then from others that it's good. For me personally it doesn't look good enough for me to go see on the big screen. I'll just wait for the DVD w/ extras..

Sorry...Ashton Kutcher makes me sick to my stomach. Plus the plot seems like some rehashed Jules Verne/Ray Bradbury stuff. Maybe I'll download it once it's on video but I doubt I'd even waste my time doing that. Ashton acts on That 70's Show and does that waste of film Punk'd and now he wants a serious role? He can suck it.

I don't want to insult anyone here, but I think anyone that refuses to see any movie based on their assumption that the actor will ruin it, is stupid. Try going to a movie for plot and story, not who's playing in it. Sorry, just my opinion.
On another opinion, the movie likely received bad reviews because the critics weren't bribed their usual amount of cash. Critics are people, just like you and I, but these are people that you do not know or have ever met. Would you take advice from some joe off the street? NO. Form your own opinions when you see the movie. Critics can blow me. Ashton whats his name did a very decent job in this movie, and I probably think that because I don't have any presumptions about him. Again, sorry if I hurt anyones feelings here. I guess I'm in a piss-everyone-off mood today. |

This is true, but people are undeniably biased against certain actors. Everyone has actors they don't like for one reason or another. For instance, I can't stand Jennifer Lopez. Her presence has ruined some otherwise decent movies in my opinion. Decent plots...but just seeing her there set me against the movie from the word go. It's different if said actor doesn't have a starring role, but you can't ignore that some people will dislike a movie solely for the way it's cast, plain and simple. As for the critics, I don't ever listen to them and I don't think many people do. Seems like I watch everything they hate anyway. That said, there's so many of these people that it's impossible to alienate them all. So I'm still not seeing it because I can't stand Ashton Kutcher and while I do like most of the stuff Ethan Suplee's been in, something tells me his role isn't enough to save it.

yeah, you're right on that. I can't agree, but that is how things are. Sad but true. I don't like jennifer lopez either, but I still thought The Cell was a very decent movie. I didnt let her lack of acting skill take away from the rest of the movie. But I also dont like singers who try to act in movies.... |
