Question! Is my Prelude V-Tec??? Please help?
I have had my prelude for 2 years, and I was always under the impression that it was NOT a V-Tec. My timing belt recently broke, my heads had to be replaced, the valves were bent, the pistons had problems; well anyway the mechanic
who repaired all of this insists that my car IS a V-Tec. So now it is kind of a burning question with all of my friends. I know a lot of Prelude enthusiasts and some agree is it V-Tec, some say that it is not. Please help solve this one!!! 95 Prelude Si 2.3 DOHC Thanks alot!!!!! |

sorry to say your engine is not a vtec, its the h23 dohc engine, the vtec engine in preludes is a 2.2 dohc and the valve cover says vtec on it. it is still a great motor

yeah... you have an SI.. the 2.3 liter non-vtec engine.
the mechanic was smoking crack??? yeah when i went and bought my timing belt, balancer belt and water pump.. i had an arguement w/ the guy at the counter at NAPA. He insisted that i had a VTEC... after arguing and arguing and FINALLY he called Honda b/c he didnt believe me, the prelude SI is a 2.3 DOHC motor.. not the 2.2 DOHC motor (which is vtec) .. anyway.. the dipshit STILL gave me the wrong water pump for my car! anyway.. in the books at a lot of parts dealers.. their books show prelude S prelude SI coupe prelude si vtec thats what it SHOWS in the book... |

They are right. If it is a 2.3, it ain't no VTEC.
Real easy way to tell. Open your hood. If the valve cover says DOHC VTEC then you have a VTEC motor. However, if it is the 2.3, you have no VTEC. |
