Is this a good trade??

I dont know what the value of these cars are. I called a guy today about a 1992 H/B with a 1.5L 5 spd.

He said he was only open to trade.

Here is the ad I have for my car in the local paper:

1988 Camaro Z28. 350/350 Turbo, 400 Horsepower. 4 wheel discs, Megashifter, Drivetrain Rebuilt 10K ago. T-Tops, new rubber, new brakes, clean interior. Over $8000 invested, No smoke shows, Driven daily.
Asking $5,500 OBO

Here is his ad:

1992 Honda Civic, exc cond, 185K on newer 1.5L motor, 289K on body, must see, Trd for 1989-90 Z28

After I called him he added it was a hatchback, had a 5spd and the car was just really clean. He also said that the tranny was swapped along with the engine.

Does this sound like a fair trade? He said he just painted the rims black, and it is basicly stock.

Dont forget I am Canadian, so those prices seem a little better

Is a straight swap good, I havn't seen the car yet, But maybe someone can give me some good info to look into when I go over to look at it. Any pointers on what to look for???

Thanks everyone, Joe

EDIT: I forgot to add he said it was a DX

Well thats not cool then. perhaps I should just sell my car for cash, and then search out a Civic i like.
Perhaps you can reccomend a good engine, I would rather not swap it, so is any stock engine in the 1992-1995 range any good? just for a daily driver of course, good on gas

big time screwed

Ok, lets head over to kbb.com---
You have to insert the body's mileage, not the motors...that doesnt matter (if the engine is brand new, it makes no difference if the body rusts to shit)...but lets say the body is flawless/excellent condition
Price - $2,125

well now lets say w/ the engine's miles also w/ excellent body cond.
Price - $2200

Ask for him to throw in another $2.5grand or look elsewhere

--

the hatch si in the 5th gen series has a d16z6 that is the most popular dseries engine to work on...its not balls out fast, but its quicker than the 1.5series and the tranny has much sportier gearing. Like I said, if you want economy look for a vx, as it will be the best on gas.

Hmm.. well what is a fair price to pay for a 1992 Civic SI hatchback. With a semi-fast engine. I would like a nice clean car, needs VERY little or no work.

Canadian prices please

So 1992 Honda Civic SI, in good cond, sun roof, ABS, power junk.

$2,600 US is a good price to pay. Does that sound fair?

Roughly $3,600 cdn. Thats stock tho,

Thanks for the link/info

it has to be a civic? Have you looked at maybe a 90-94 prelude? ( i think those have the H22 please correct me if im wrong.) Those have decent power and still pretty good on gas. Well it better than a 400hp big block

the geekz0r (11:04:16 PM): so 2nd pulls like 1st in the 5speed, 3rd is like 2nd, etc.
PortugeeTex (11:04:26 PM): so whats 1st like then?
the geekz0r (11:04:49 PM): 1st is like hitting a cheeta in the ass with a tazer

If you can find a 92-95 civic hatchback si with reasonable km's your looking at around $3000-$7000 depending on condition. If you look around you should be able to find one. When I got mine a few years back it took me a few months to find one that wasn't beaten on. I ended up with a '93 hatch si. The car was awesome and in great shape, only major prob I ever had with the car was the clutch. I got excellent gas milage out of it, and it didn't suffer to bad when I put 17's on. Good luck

d15=slow. i'd keep the '88 camaro. you looking for a race car/daily driver or straight out daily driver? for daily driver mabe trade with cash. for race car you're looking at motor swap (185k is a lot! i have 200k) then you have to build the motor up. looking at at least 3 to 4k to have anything comparable to the camaro
