power inverter
i recently bought a laptop and i got a power invereter also. it's supposed to be 175W, and a laptop should use only 35-40W, but when i put the laptop in and i turn it on the thing goes in overload prottection and it shuts off. could this be some issues with the unit, or my cigarette lighter ? also i could not get any amperage reading thru the cig lighter, but the voltage is 12.46V.

The power inverter goes into overload protection? The power inverter could be messed up....maybe you should try another?
I'm not sure about the older Hondas, but the 6th gens are rated as 10 or 12 A maximum current, I believe it's 12. If you were to try to measure the current through the cig lighter....ummm...how are you measuring it? I would expect that there's no good way to test the current through the cig lighter unless you jump the fuse terminals or cut the wire somewhere to jump it with the meter while having a load on the system, such as your power inverter. b |

You can't take an amp reading on an open circuit, has to be a short circuit (or loaded circuit)

yeah mine is 10, and i forgot about the open and close circuit. i'm gonna try another one. there is no way a laptop could surge that much power.

if i remeber well the formula for power is P=U*R and i just looked at the adaper it's rated 100-240v, 1.5A for input and the output is 19v 4.7 A so that should be close to 150W surged from the cig lighter, and that is way less than the inverter could produce (~25W)

ohhh well i measured the output of it and it looks like it's only 98v in my car, and some hyunday, and in any other the output is around 112V. Also my car had the highest cig lighter voltage: 14.98 ohh well
