Draft: 402-2

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washing...05-draft_x.htm

Quote:
originally said by the mokey who is president
We will not have a draft, so long as I am president of the United States.

Quote:
Voting for the measure were Reps. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.), who long has argued the United States needs more troops in Iraq, and Fortney "Pete" Stark (D-Calif.), a 32-year House veteran.

Quote:
from my local paper
Kerry has said he, if elected, would not bring ack the draft

I think that covers that situation

dont know about the other branches but the Air Force is letting thousands of people who want out early, out. apparently after 9/11 there was an influx of people signing up and congress allowed the air force(probably other branches too) to go over thier limit. now they're trying to scale back by letting thousands out. there aint gonna be a draft ANY time soon.

The draft was voted down 402-2
the whole thing was basically a publicity stunt

I don't know about that. I'd been hearing rumors of this since before the presidential race started heating up. I figured it was never going to happen...but just the idea of it pissed me off. This is what you get when "selective service" isn't so selective.

Oh sure, there were talks of it on here months and months ago.
I really feel that they did it just to prove a point though.
(the voting on it, not the talks about having the draft reinstated)
