Found me a car!?!

Ok its not street legal in the US yet....... But I am about to buy this car (if i get the loan). Its a Honda Civic Type R JDM RHD EK9. Its a 1998 with a B16B 1.6 DOHC VTEC. The car is straight import from japan, I dont know what RHD is though.... HELP? The car is right wheel drive. So what do yall think, I only gonna pay 7000$???

There has to be something wrong with it. And to get it DOT approved its $5,000 for airbag-installation and crash testing.

Have fun with that loan, I already looked into getting a Teg' R imported from Japan, and it just wasn't worth the money.

Clean looking car though, wonder why its only selling for that much.

I will tell you all the company names that ripped me off so therefore we wont have any problems in the future. Hey how do they do crash testing for cars like that, do they just check the airbags?

most, if not all japanese type'rs are not fitted with airbags... therefore, u must find some airbag cylinders and have them installed by a honda dealership. Normally costing around 300 for both cylinders. Installation is another thing.

As for the testing, I got in contact with inline4, a local shop here known nationwide, and they said if the car does not pass DOT the first time, you must pay another $5,000 dollars more for it to be tested again.

it would be driving without registration, without insurance, without proper safty devices, a non street legal car, improper emmisions devices... the tickets would go on.

as far as importing it. if it hasnt been crash tested in america, dont even bother. the RHD OEM JDM version will have to have 2 from that generation sent to detriot to get crash tested. a front and side impact. then the airbag sensors will be wrong(yes they do have airbags in japan, just the sensors deply different than US standards) you will have to replance the glass i believe(not DOT approved safty glass), theres a chance that theres a structual difference and you would need to have more structual support. it takes ALOT to get a car street legal in america. it will have to meet the USDM standard for the year car it is in order to be street legal. i have looked into this, its cheaper to buy the car already assembled in japan, get it choped in half, shipped over, and put everything onto a doner car in america. and i know what skylines had to go through to get made street legal. it cost ken(owner) at motorex almost $1,000,000 to get the r32 r33 and r34 street legal here in america

I wasn't too sure about airbags. I was going to pick up a RHD ITR '96, that did not come with one single airbag in that car. Could be a year difference, I'm not sure.

yup... that would be suck a sweet car to have... you could just buy a hatch a soup it to make it into a type R. but after all the money u spend u coulda got something else better. Yeah i was thinking that.... someone has to love the type R and the chance to have a real JDM for less then it normally cost but for more then I paid! I proble will drive it illegaly for a little while but then I will need to make it legal or sell it.

anyoer few tickets you can add to the list... illegal registration, probobly tag fraud(wrong tag on car), i can see if a cop was a dick and wanted to fully prosucute you(which i wouldnt doubt) a huge huge huge fine(2k+ easy) and possible criminal prosocution.

oh, and the reason its cheap, the cars are nthing in japan. you can buy a 91-93 silvia for $800 american dollars

Actually I just checked retail for a Type-R is 15k but yeah compared to most japanese cars thats nothing. No this is not my first car this would be my third.....

when u get the DOHC VTEC Engine it SHOULD come with a new transmission.... but the price would depend on wut engine u get... b16a2 or b18c are TOO NICE in hatches. less than 3k also... correct that shit if it's wrong pleaz.... sometimes i get carried away... other times i'm high....

thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard. a cop sees you on the right side, hes going to look for ANYTHING to give you a ticket for. and since you couldnt get the car insured hes going to notice you have no plates or no tags - your car is gone the minute you are pulled over - not just tickets.
