basic question: advantage to DVC sub?

I guess I dont understand what the advantage is to a dual voice coil sub? I'm looking at buying a Infinity Kappa Perfect 12" for my g/fs del sol, and I'm finding that some places charge the same price for dual and single coils. I'm running a 600 watt amp. Questions are:

What is the advantage to DVC's (better sound quality, power handling, etc)?

this will be going into a 1.0 cu truck box (space issues). Will it perform okay?

should I go for dvc or svc?

if you didnt totally understand.......

DVC allows for more flexibility in wiring......no difference in SQ or anything it just helps when you have more than 1 sub.......

you can check rockfordfosgates website in RF tech.......it'll show you the difference between ohm loads with single voice coils and dual voice coils........................

if you dont know anything about ohms........ the lower the ohm the more power the amp produces......but most amps are 2ohm stable......and run more power at 2ohms on both channels than 4 ohms on both channels...........and max power is usualy 4ohms mono(1 channel bridged)
say you have an amp that produces

100 watts x2 @4ohms RMS power
it might produce 200 wattsx2 @2ohms rms power
and 600 wattsx1@ 4ohms mono

Well, I'm wiring an infinity perfect 12.1d right now, and I wired in in series (8 ohm load). THis is what infinity recommends, so Im going with it.

Also, how can I tell what the amps impedance is? This is a "Thump Gold" 600 watt amp. Thump was a division of mobile authority, but they have no data on this amp. I figure since I'm running the load at 8 ohm, then I'm not really over powering the amp. am I hurting anything?

overpowering in 8 ohm.?? overpowering would be 1ohm...that amp is a 2 ohm stable amp.........take that sub down to 2 or 4 ohms........you'll get more outta it.....home audio runs in 8 ohms....car audio runs 4 and below......get that thing outta 8 ohms ASAP.......your hardly pushing any power at all

okay, but about pushing the amp too hard? If I have a lower resistance load that what the amp can handle, I toast the amp right? And how do you know if this amp is 2 ohm stable?

MOST amps are 2 ohm stable......look the amp up online.....check www.nexxon.com to read about your amp........and yes at a impedence lower than what is STABLE on the amp will make it go poof so 1 ohm on a 2 ohm stable amp will destroy it

thats all I'm concerned about. THere is no data on this amp. Its a Thump Gold 600-watt amp. There is a serial number, but I guess I should've done my homework before buying. live and learn. Its not found anywhere, that nexxon site only list the new models by mobile authority. oh well...thanks for the help...

i'm positive its a 2 ohm stable amp....not sure that thump made a monoblock amp....

Actually although the amp is two ohm stable, it's usually only 2 ohm stable in sterio, as soon as you bridge a typical 2 channel amp then you can only apply a normal 4 ohm load. Some amps will allow you to run a 1 ohm load, this is ideal if your're going to run two 4 ohm parallel bridged into the amp as a mono setup. Just be carefull with whatever you setup. Either which way you shouldn't be running a 8 ohm load.
