Has anybody ever painted their cars themselves??
I was wondering if it could be done......i have a '96 accord ex with alot of scratches....its been keyed 3 times and I really want to paint it black .....however, I've got alot of other expenses and was just wondering if I could save a few bucks and maybe rent a spray paint gun and do it myself. Any suggestions as to whether it would be worth it would be greatly appreciated.

Well It can be done. get a good sprayer and some high quality paint. sand it down, prime it, coat it, then clearcoat. Gotta find a good garage that you can hang drapes or something around to keep dust and debris off it. good luck with that

i heard sanding down a car is a btch! anyway, this local paintjob place did a crappy ass job on my friends 240. Not only didn't they sand it down well enough, they feathered the paint on the trim, his pop up headlights, and even his exhaust. he isn't trippin that much cause you get what you pay for. (399$)

I once repainted a side skirt on my car.. hit a curb and cracked the paint..
I sanded it down real good, then primered the exposed part.. then I bought some touch up paint.. but had them mix it in a spray can... all the stuff cost me about $100 including 3 -stage paint and primer turned out reall good.. u just have to be patient and steady-handed.. after polishing the clearcoat, it was like new.. Ill try to look up the site where I bought the paint and post it here.. |

It can be done but youll probably have to wet sand it down and you will neet to make it real smooth. it takes time to be done right if you dont do it daily, so spend the cash or take time and accept the risk
