yeah, basically something that will let me chop up an mp3 and keep it in mp3 format without butchering quality.

i got you covered, man. I use this for splitting the audio from DVDs into tracks for use on CDs. Regardless, it will work for you the same way. There are three options: Split by size, split by time, and split by selection. You'll want to do selection. You'll need to know the start and end times of each track, so have a notepad and pen handy.
The program is in mostly in english, but some of the dialog boxes are german. oh well, you'll figure it out. If that doesnt work out for you, let me know, and i'll get you a copy of goldwave. That program can do anything. http://www.wannafork.com/files/mp3splitter.zip |

Personally, I've been using CoolEdit a lot lately, but for different reasons. I dl'ed the program and used a crack...so Aaron's idea might be better.

yeah, pretty much any audio editing program will work, you just don't want to have to re-encode the mp3. a good experiment to try would be to reencode at the same bitrate, and compare the quality to the original mp3, and see if you notice any difference.
as i understand, mp3s can even be split using a hex editor, just chopping off bits until you get what you want. obviously this is an extreme example, but it proves that re-encoding is not necessary. the mp3splitter program does just that: splits, but doesnt reencode. thats all you need. |
