Engine sounds like a machine gun

i replaced yesterday the gaskets from the valve cover, and i had to replace the ones between the rocker arm assembly and the head. after replacement, i tigtened everything to the torque listed in the chiltons and haynes, but when i started the engine it sounded like a machine gun. do i need to do the valve adjustament too ? i haven't touched the adjustament screws, but i noticed some of them were worn. where can i get new ones ? does anyone know the specs for the valves ?

What sounds like a machine gun? Does it sound like its coming from inside the motor? Is it a constant knocking or just when the accelerator is pressed? When's the last time you had an oil change?

Actually it sounds like it's comming from the cylinder head. after the car warmed up last night it stopped once i gotr it on the freeway and above 3000rpms ( i really wanted a h22 ) and it never came back this morning. i tested to see if one of the cylinders are missfireing, or has any knoks but none of them knock. tomorrow i'll have the valves adjusted, but i need to get those adjuster screws first. they are only 2.50 a piece at most. i just need to know the specs for the valve adjutament.

ok now really sounds like something fell in.. When you revved it up, the loose particle was probably pressed in somewhere.

Anyways, if its gone, its all good.

i payed enough attention not to have crap falling in, or lose parts in there. i don't know maybe it was just the adjutament screw until it went to normal position

I'm not real familar with your motor but it sounds as if replacing the gasket threw your valve lash off . Re-adjust them using the screws and feeler gauge's , And be sure to recheck them after 500miles of driving .
