anyone play golf?

anyone here play golf? ive taken it up the past few weeks and started playing again. im loving it. i shot a 58 on 9 holes the first day, that was going 2 years without even a driving range. then 3 weeks later i shot a 46, so im deffinitaly improving. im looking to buy a set of clubs soon. ive got my drivers already.. big berthas, but as far as iorns, whats the advantages to graphite shafts over iron ones? a friend told me he loves the iron shafts and only old men and ladys get graphite for irons how much should i look at spending on a decent set of clubs? i dont need the best, just something thats worth owning

friday before work i hit 200 balls, the range is 225 long, then its woods, i sunk about 70 of them in the woods, and no less tha 150 yards, and all 150yard shots would roll to at least the 200 mark.

225 that's a short range... all the ranges around me i have about 3 to choose are at least 300 one has 400 yards

And my wife drives better than you too =)

Nah .. she's pretty good though .. she's hit a couple to the 250 mark....
All mine go to the woods... that are on the right hand side of us =)

im gonna find a longer range soon cause i think i can hit the 250 or 275 sometimes. i dunno though, ive only been playing again for about 4 weeks now, so i still have alot of improvment time.

oh, and the driving range i goto has the airport DIRECTLY across the street, so i always try to chip as high as i can to hit planes, never even came close yet though. my fav part of going to the range is hitting the guy picking the balls up, i nailed the truck 6 times on friday.

I played golf since I was young, in part of HS, and I still play for fun, just not as much as I'd like. Your friend is right... if you are a strong player, you'll want metal shafts. I've snapped or cracked 3 graphite shafts before I moved to metal shafted clubs. Most people under 35-40 will swing plenty hard to warrant getting a nice set of metal shaft clubs. Also, I have graphite drivers which are pretty much no good now because I swing too hard for the flex. I'll need to get some xxs or metal shafts in the future.

Well, the set I have right now isn't the best, but its a nice, custom fit (very important) set of King Cobra II's. I'd either go with something like that, or a set of Titleists in the same price range, which is about $600 for the basic irons I think.

wow, thanx man, thats what i was looking for. if i got stiff graphite shafts would that be beter? or should i just stick with metal? now is 600 a good set, or something that will be a good set to get good on? i dont need the best.... yet, i wana make sure i stick with the sport alot before i spend 600 bucks on a set... not to sound cheap, but whats good in the 250-300 range? or are there no clubs that cheap?

I got a set of clubs to sell ya if you wanna pay the shipping on em ... I havent played golf for about 3 years now... considering starting back... but anyways I like the graphite shafts... much lighter than metal and allow for more power to go into hitting the ball rather than swinging the heavier club... just my thoughts on it... my drivers are some weird Australlian guy's name and I dont know but Im 17 (14 at the time I played) and I could drive them about 225yds and Im a little guy too... thats how good these drivers are... oh yeah they are custom- that is one of the most vital parts of the club- make sure it fits before you buy it

thats the problem buying a pre-fitted set of clubs online, and you said your a little guy... and you had the clubs when you were 14... how tall were you? im 6'0 almost all clubs i pick up that havnt been fitted yet, fit me perfectly. i dunno, i'd like to try to clubs out first, i went today to a golf store that was open(memorial day), they had some real nice sets there... like 750-1200 for just irons, they hit very nice, and i acted like i had all the money in the world so they let me hit them a few times at the mat on the wall, the more expensive they were, the nicer they felt... weird how that worked...

Hmm I was probably like 5'3" or something back when I was 14... cant remember... maybe a bit shorter... yeah prob more like 5' flat... im about 5'10" now and they are small... and they may *feel great but u might not be holding them the correct distance from your body or may have other problems with them later... just make sure you like em and then if they fit, have fun golfing... and I wont drive my car on the road that cuts through the course you play on... the old guys get so pissed when I do that here

If you get stiff graphite shafts, make sure you get extra stiff, not just stiff. You'd probably have to custom order these in irons, and in drivers, only low loft clubs (about 9 degrees and lower) have this. If you aren't experienced, you won't hit those drivers too well. Its a dilemma, and you'll probably end up with the best set of clubs if you go to a good shop and tell them your situation. Just don't let them talk you into spending lots of dough... they're good at that.

250-300 set of clubs = buy a used set of nicer irons. You might be able to find a decent set for 350-400 but under that, you're pushing it. If you try them out and hit them fine though, go for some cheaper clubs.

As for pre-fit ones hitting like custom fit clubs... If you actually get custom fit, you will hit better. The only problem being that if you swing weird because you aren't great at golf yet, and you get fit for a set of clubs, later on when you develop your swing, them may be off.

i noticed my swing was getting lazy, so i started to swing right, and it felt weird at frist, but as soon as it felt normal, the ball started to go farther
