turbo f22 or H22 swap
I've been thinking about it and I was just wondering what would be the best. get a swap for a whole new engine...or just upgrade the internals of the f22 and just slap on a turbo.
also if I were to just turbo the f22 I hear that running 6-8lbs of boost is considered safe on a stock f22. but i'd want to do it right the first time and reinforce the internals. My question is what exactly would be needed to be upgraded? |

oh man...ive been fighting with my self on this one all the time...H22 Or Turbo....Man i personally wouldnt mind Jackson Racing to come out with a supercharger for my engine...but i doubt they have it...THey said on there site they would have one by 03/04 but i havent seen anything about it yet....BUt back to u...depends how much money u wanna spend....if u get a swap...thats money...then u wanna mod up that swapped engine...thats more money...but if u just take ur engine now..built it and turbo..thats money and its done...know what im saying...all depends what u plan to spend...But...the more ponies will be in the H22..right off the bat then if u mod it... It'll be sick....(turbo,etc) how much u care about speed?:o

I guess it depends on what your long term goals are. A bunch of people have successfully turboed the F22, but without serious building there is a limit to the hp output you'll get. If you were to get a swap, you start out with a much quicker platform and you can always build from there. Plus you have no turbo tuning to do unless you decide to turbo the H22 later on.
So if you want more potential and probably easier power, I'd go swap.

a boosted H22a or a1 is not going to be as reliable as a Boosted F22. i would build up the F22a Turbo it. internals that would need upgraded: Pistons, rods, rings, valves, valve retainers, sleeves, pnp, blue printed, blanaced, bored out.
you dont have to do that whole list just to boost. you can boost stock internals. just dont run over 7 psi.

Assuming you'd build both and run a reasonable amount of boost, what would make the F22 better?

well i've researched and the h22 would be alittle more to boost since the compression on a f22b1 is 8.8:1
while a h22 is around 10.6:1 I'm not too worried about a lot of power, I just would prefer to keep the stock engine and not have to worry about fitting a larger engine and finding a way to stuff a turbo in there (I live in florida so I don't really want to sacrifice A/C or powersteering) so if I decided to just turbo the f22 what brand internals are recommended? |

i'd say turbo. the f22's can hold lots more boost than the h22.

the h22s' arent the best to boost due to high ass compersion. its the second highest of honda motors. the f22 is more reliable straight up.
im looking to get JE pistons and rods. them and aries make some bad ass internals. but i would defently get JE.

I was looking at Aries earlier
so you think I should just buy the turbo first and get that set up and run a low boost and up it once I get thte shit in? also I've had a few people on another forum say it'd be cheaper and better to buy the turbo kit in peices and just have custom piping made, would you agree with this Ben and stefan? |

i would have to agree. seeing as thats what im in the process of doing. i got custom piping made for less 150 bucks. im still waiting for my turbo. the Turbonectic T62-1.
i would build up the motor for it first. only becuase you have such high mileage. your internals maybe already to week to hold anything. what i would do is first anyways is rebuild the motor. get the internals then sent it to a machine shop let them bore it out, resleeve it, blueprint it, blanace it, port and polish. this does cost tons of cash.

i would go the custome turbo route. and the f series are a lot stronger in internals than the h22's. my accord with 172k miles on it has 185 psi cold, and around 200 warmed up which is as it came from the factory.

so stefan what do you think? think I should be safe to turbo it before reinforcing the internals?
is there a way I can check what shape my engine is in? |

yes there is a way to check it. it cost about 70 bucks at any shop.
they do compression tests, they check to see if your internals are still holding up and what not. they usually have the car for a full day tho.

they should do a leak down test instead of a compression check. basically they put air into the engine and they will see how much it will be able to hold. most of the time the culprit would be the valve train not the internals.
