cold air intake
hey I was wondering if someone could help me, I installed a cold air intake on my 99 hatch, and for some reason unknown to me it whistles when I accelerate, but only half of the time. Is there anyway to get rid of this, or is it just one of those things I'm gonna have to get used to?

Welcome to HS
Intakes just whistle, though mine doesn't do it loud enough to bother me. It does bother some people, but you just have to get used to it. How do you like it other than that?

Oh and I'd thought I'd add that I really like it, I thoroghly enjoy the little bit of throaty sound, and I'm sure the 1 hp it added will come in handy!! Hey, It looks really good, too. I needed to get rid of that lame factory plastic sh!t in there, especially that huge resignator box that did absolutly nothing. Now my strut tower bar fits in there too, because the stupid air filter was in the way before, in it's monstrous clunky plastic housing. Yes, I like it!! You wouildn't beleive what I paid for it either, it isn't AEM, but I paid a hundred for it, new, tax in, canadian. Cool.

You like how it whistled? Mine is super loud, ha I wisk I could only hear it when the hood is open. I can hear mine almost everytime I accelerate in second and third gear, not usually in first though. It's super loud, almost kinda squeaky.

I have the same problem with my AEM CAI. I have gotten used to it. Love the sound though....when VTEC kicks in.

I notice a bit of that sucking sound with my AEM, but definitely not a whistle. Make sure there isn't a gap where the filter attaches to the pipe - or maybe if it's an off-brand the whistling is just a design flaw.
I don't notice any big difference in sound when the vtec kicks in (compared to any other engine when you hit high revs) - I don't think it's much of a change, on the sohc at least. |

i intake doesn't make a sound anymore, maybe because of the whine of the SC. I doesn't even sound throaty or deep anymore.

meh, I've accepted the fact that I'm gonna get used to it, and Derek, if it was the sound of a turbo spooling I wouldn't be complaining!!

Did you know that there is a turbo CRX running around here..but he can only boost @2.0 psi..hahaha because he has over 300,000 KM on his engine....I would have just done a swap then spending the money on a turbo

he should put some effort into the body on that thing, its a mess. Were you there last street legal drag night? I was but had to leave because the BF got depressed he wasn't racing because he nees to put a battery/kill switch on his bumper b/c the battery is in the trunk, and there fore without it , it wasn't legal.

Yeah, intakes are a bit noisy: when my Honda is idling it sounds like a wheezy old man exhaling, and when I accelerate it sounds like two cows having sex...you know...muuuwwwaaaaaa...
