Depending on the situation a short shifter is prefered over a stock length shifter.. This allows for tighter gear change patterns making things a little faster..

I think mines about 30% shorter then stock, but I cant remember for sure..

I want to get one thats about 40%-50% though.. It makes it feel sportier when its shorter..

so if i don't have a short shifter, or stock, slightly bigger, but I always make sure that performance is the key factor with me. Is that ok?

I cut 3 inches off of my shift lever with a hacksaw. I must say, I'd do it again, given the chance. Throws are much tighter and smoother now

You have to buy the whole shebang for a VR6.

I was wrong. It's $499.95 for my car and $229.95 for MkIV VR6's.

Its kinda technical really,

An actual Short Shifter is longer below the pivot point which when shifting gears it will make it shorter going from one gear to the other. If you take it off the top it maybe be a little less of a throw but not near as effect. So instead of reducing your throw, 40% you may reduce it 20%.. Hope this made at least a little sense..

(Im not 100% sure about the figures, If anyone has actually experimented with this and has a more solid number, please post them)

it did make sense...because the shifter isn't actually that much shorter. Its where the ball sits. Kinda hard to explain....but you know what I mean.

yeah i hacked 2 inches off mine, and have the adapter, so its pretty tight shifts, no one makes a true short shifter for me.

well see, when yer using a shorter throw shifter which is stock length, it feels much more solid and banging each gear is much more enjoyable for driver and passenger, especially when you throw on some more solid bushings, makes it more direct.

i dont think the length of the shifter matters all that much, just the width and if you know how to use it to the fullest. just practice, practice and pracitce some more. you will get it eventually and when you hear your car make that nice moaning noise when you shift the gears, thats when you know you hit the spot. =)) good luck

my edge shorty is a 40%-60% decrease in throw. its awesome and only $185.00. Im afraid that japan is having some kind of manufacture problem with the shorties so they had to up the prices like hell. edge = american so woOt. I think the neuspeed one for my car was $385.00 and around that for every other jap / euro shifter. nopi told me exactly what hte problem was but i cant remember to the fullest. =/

Short shifters look cute and all.. but theres no handle on them. You can never get a GOOD grip. Short shifters also get the fluids flowin' quicker than a longer shifter. But I think its not the size of the shifter.. its the horsies in the engine that get me moving!

you can do it yourself, only takes about 30 minutes to switch out.

i think you can safely cut like an inch off of it but since the stock shifter is threaded and you will be doing away with the threads, you'll need a shift knob that stays on with allen screws. or you could always J&B Weld the stock knob on the shifter
