Antenna makes horrible grinding noise and does not move in '90 Integra
I have a power antenna on my 1990 Integra GS and when i first bought the car (used a week ago) the antenna would not move at all, it would just make a HORRIBLE grinding noise and it would not move. I tried dropping some WD-40 on it and making sure that it gets inbetween the separate parts of the antenna and that it is all lubed up. This helped the problem, now the antenna will go all the way up from the bottom position (but still makes the horrible noise for a second after it finishes fully extending) on the way down, at about 8" from reaching the bottom, it gets stuck and makes the horrible grinding noise. The next day, it didnt go down as much anymore and it is back to being stuck near the top
any ideas? |

I've got the same problem, but I know exactly what happened- Mine froze in the up position when we got hammerewd by the snow a couple weeks ago, and I pushed it down. Bad Idea.
The grinding you hear is the gears in the motor- it's toast. Personally, I just disconnected my antenna lead- it doesn't do anything, anyway. |

is there a way that I can just disconnect the antenna motor but still have the antenna connected to the head unit?
the purpose being that I can push up the antenna manually and leave it there and have still have reception and not have to hear the horrible grinding noises that it makes. are the plugs separate? I still havent been able to open the panels in the back of my integ... maybe you could tell me what you did, I took out the screws and all, but still wont give |

XM! I have a teg too and I diconnected the antenna after I got XM. I still get FM radio in just fine without it. IMO, I think the antenna makes our tegs look like a Remote Control Car. |

I had the same problem with my teg. I just disconnected the motor power on my head unit, but still left it in to get a little better reception. Not worth the grinding.
