Wyotech/WTI

Anyone have any insight into these automotive schools. I've been reading their sites and am trying to figure out what I want to do next year. Stefan, was it you maybe that is enrolled in one of these?.....if anyone has any information let me know.....whether you were in it once or someone was.......and what not.

I enrolled in one here in CT but dropped out before I started to go to take college classes instead.. (wish I hadn't)...

I'm not sure what you're asking though?

They teach you a skill be it automotive or diesel or computers.. etc...

they're usually pretty good and you can usually get financial aid or a gov. loan for the whole thing...

Pick a couple and go talk to them that's the only way you're going to get a good one...

Denver Diesel is REALLY good I know a couple of guys who went there... I'm sure wyotech is good too though...

Well, I was just reading Wyotech's site the other day and I'd pick Auto Tech...then you either pick like Chassis Fabrication & Engine, Street Rodding, Painting.....interior stuff.....as an elective for your additional 3 months....to give you more insight in one particular area......

yeah wyotech seems to be trying to cash in on the hotrod unniversity thing...

I'm sure it's a sick school... you learn TONS of stuff even at a semi-shitty tech school... there's TONS of stuff to know... and the best part is they usually hook you up with SWEET jobs depending on how well you do...

The guy I talked to was like when you graduate I feel safe in saying you'd have pick of the litter when it comes to jobs... ANYTHING you want to do... from restore shop to new dealer service manager....

If you really feel you have a passion for cars and truely believe this is what you're going to be doing for the REST of your life it's well worth it...

If you plan on going learning a little and getting a job as a mechanic at some shop... skip the school and start at lower pay at the shop... you'll learn everything you need to know working under a couple of good mechanics.... The school costs don't really pay off unless you plan on being a lifer with goals to do specialized stuff...

totally understandable.....it's like the more and more I look into getting my business going I'm getting into the whole car thing. I mean, if i can open up an actual shop....with some stalls know my shit and actually install and do the work on it. I mean, otherwise even working at a nice dealership parts/mechanic....it seems like something I could have fun doing. I always saw myself doing something with computers. Then I started the business thing and getting a lot of interest locally and getting excited about it....so i started thinking about going for business....confused....who knows

just a lil word from the experienced, all those jobs they CLAIM are there, aren't there, many of the "advanced" manufacturer schools are no longer accepting applicants as the auto industry has been hard hit by the recession, i know for a fact there are at least 60K currently umemployed mechanics in chicago. I am lucky enough to have my position set and my job stable.

Graduated from WTI 3-00

3 years with honda now

oh no, they are still there, but i know for a fact that volvo has no place to put the people it's trained, the programs are not accepting nearly as many applicants as they used to. if you choose to do it i wish ya the best of luck.

But it'd be very cool to get into a program like i read about the Audi, BMW, etc......I guess I'll wait for the info. and see what can happen.....maybe it isnt' meant to be

Would that be me? I go to Pittsburg State University (Pittsburg, KS that is). They've got a phenominal auto tech program. I'm 1/2 way through a 4 year degree and they say their placement rate is 98% with an average 1st-year-out salary of $36K/year. all of the graduating seniors last year had jobs before they were out so I'd believe it. They've also got a 2 year service technician program. The 4 year program is for service manager/field representative but you still get all of the service tech training...you just don't buy your own tools, you get some business classes, and you rarely wrench on cars as a part of your job once you're out. I've been to "Wyotech" (before I started college) and when I say that and compared it to Pitt State it was like community college vs. Harvard...no comparison. Plus Pitt was much closer to to KC. Plus it doesn't hurt that they've got an in-house chassis dyno we can use on weekends
